Have your say on the emerging design and principles

We want to work with local people to transform the area around the Town Hall into a new neighbourhood celebrating culture and heritage, creating new affordable homes as well as exceptional green spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Our approach to delivering the shared vision is driven by a number of design principles that will ensure that the objectives of the Council and local people are met and exceeded. These principles will help form an inclusive community and neighbourhood for all and create a place that considers the history and heritage as well as the needs of a civic space for generations to come.

Whilst there are some aspects of the design where there is less opportunity for influence due to planning requirements and conditions that have been set by the Council and external bodies, there are many that you can have influence over and we would really like to hear your views!

Culture, identity and heritage

Our vision is to design a Civic Hub at the heart of the Borough, a new neighbourhood that celebrates culture and heritage, creating new affordable homes as well as exceptional green and open spaces for everyone to enjoy.

A green neighbourhood

The masterplan has been designed to provide green spaces throughout this new neighbourhood to ensure a variety of spaces from gardens, shared courtyards, squares, public lawns and an enhanced Chestnut Field. All of these spaces will look to offer a more healthy and sustainable neighbourhood.

An inclusive and inviting neighbourhood

The masterplan will include character areas, both inside and out, to promote pride, identity, participation and local activity through providing different types of spaces.

Routes, edges and connections

The masterplan provides key routes from Forest Road to Chestnuts Field and beyond. We will introduce new access points from Farnan Avenue towards the College and ensure that there is a positive relationship between the new homes, buildings and public areas in and around this new neighbourhood.
